Software Engineering

From first prototype to production at scale, we design, build and modernize software that's reliable, secure and easy to evolve.

overview

Engineering that ships, and keeps working after launch.

Software Engineering at Code Binary covers the full life of a product: shaping the idea, designing the architecture, writing the code, putting it into production and keeping it healthy. We work as an extension of your team, and we aim to keep the same engineers with your product from the first commit to long after go-live, so the people building it are the people who understand it.

Our roots are in backend systems and Go, and we bring the same discipline to every layer of the stack: simple designs, strong typing, measurable performance and automated everything. That covers APIs and services, web and mobile front ends, cloud infrastructure, delivery pipelines and the integrations that tie them together.

Whether you're a founder validating a new product, a growing company whose platform needs to scale, or an enterprise with a legacy system that has become hard to change, we'll help you choose the right approach, and then deliver it.

capabilities

What we can build for you

Seven capabilities, one team. Use them on their own or combine them to take a product from idea to production.

Product Engineering

Turning an idea into a product people actually use.

We start with the problem, not the technology: who the users are, what they need to get done, and what the smallest version worth shipping looks like. From there we design, build and iterate in short cycles, so you see working software every sprint and can change direction based on real feedback rather than assumptions.

Our engineers think like product owners. We'll challenge a feature that adds complexity without adding value, suggest simpler ways to hit the same goal, and keep an eye on the metrics that tell you whether the product is working.

What we deliver

  • Discovery workshops, product scoping and roadmap planning
  • MVPs, proof-of-concepts and technical feasibility studies
  • User flows, wireframes and clickable prototypes
  • Iterative delivery with sprint demos and release notes
  • Product analytics and feedback loops to guide what comes next

Backend & API Development

Fast, dependable services with clean, well-documented APIs.

The backend is where reliability is won or lost. We build services that are fast, observable and easy to reason about, primarily in Go, alongside Java, Python and Node.js where they're the better fit for the job or your team.

We design clear, versioned APIs, model data carefully, and plan for concurrency, failure and growth from day one, so the system you launch with can grow with your business without a rewrite.

What we deliver

  • REST, gRPC and GraphQL APIs with OpenAPI documentation
  • Microservices, or a well-structured modular monolith when that's the simpler choice
  • Event-driven systems using message queues and streaming platforms such as Kafka
  • Relational and NoSQL data modelling, query tuning and caching
  • Authentication, authorisation and multi-tenant architectures
  • Performance profiling, load testing and capacity planning

Frontend Development

Interfaces that are quick, accessible and consistent on every device.

Your users judge the whole product by the screen in front of them. We build web applications, dashboards and mobile apps that load quickly, respond instantly and work the way people expect, whether they're on a large monitor or a phone on a patchy connection.

We use component-based architectures and a shared design system, so new screens are faster to build and the product keeps a consistent look and feel as it grows. Accessibility and performance are part of the definition of done, not an afterthought.

What we deliver

  • Web applications, admin panels and data-heavy dashboards
  • Cross-platform mobile apps for iOS and Android
  • Design systems and reusable component libraries
  • Responsive, accessible interfaces following WCAG guidelines
  • Front-end performance tuning and Core Web Vitals improvements

Cloud Engineering

Secure, cost-aware cloud architecture, sized for today with room to grow.

We design and build cloud environments that are secure by default, easy to operate and priced for where your business is today. Our team works across Google Cloud, AWS and Azure, with hands-on experience running production workloads on managed Kubernetes, serverless platforms and managed data services.

Everything we provision is defined as code, so environments are repeatable, reviewable and easy to recreate. And we keep an eye on the bill: right-sizing resources, choosing the right pricing models and removing waste are part of the job.

What we deliver

  • Cloud architecture design and well-architected reviews
  • Kubernetes (GKE, EKS, AKS) and containerised workloads
  • Serverless functions and managed services such as Cloud Run, Cloud Functions and Lambda
  • Infrastructure as Code with Terraform
  • Identity and access management, network design and security baselines
  • Cost optimisation and right-sizing

DevOps & Platform Engineering

Shipping should be routine, not risky.

We automate the path from a developer's commit to production, so every change is built, tested and deployed the same way, every time. That means fewer surprises on release day, faster feedback for your developers, and the confidence to ship small changes often.

Once software is live, we make sure you can see what it's doing. Logs, metrics, traces and sensible alerts let your team spot problems before customers do, and clear runbooks make incidents shorter and calmer.

What we deliver

  • CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or Cloud Build
  • Automated test gates, code-quality and security checks on every change
  • Blue-green and canary deployments with quick, safe rollbacks
  • Monitoring, centralised logging, distributed tracing and alerting
  • Environment strategy, release management and incident runbooks

Integrations

Connecting your software to the systems your business already runs on.

Very few products live on their own. We connect your applications to payment gateways, CRMs, ERPs, identity providers, messaging services and partner APIs, and make those connections dependable.

Good integrations are invisible when they work and easy to diagnose when they don't. We build them with retries, idempotency, rate-limit handling and monitoring, so a slow third-party API doesn't become your outage.

What we deliver

  • Third-party API integrations and custom SDKs
  • Payment gateways, subscriptions and billing platforms
  • Single sign-on with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and SAML
  • Webhooks, ETL pipelines and data synchronisation between systems
  • Email, SMS and WhatsApp notification services
  • Integration health dashboards and failure alerting

Modernization

Upgrade legacy systems without stopping the business.

Legacy systems carry years of business knowledge, and years of technical debt. We help you modernize them safely: understanding what exists, deciding what to keep, refactor, rewrite or retire, and then migrating in small, reversible steps while the current system keeps running.

Migrating services to Go is one of our specialities. Go's simplicity, efficient concurrency and small footprint often bring big gains in performance and running costs, and we've taken production services through that journey end to end.

What we deliver

  • Codebase and architecture assessment with a prioritised modernization plan
  • Java and legacy-to-Go service migration
  • Breaking monoliths into services using the strangler-fig pattern
  • On-premise to cloud migration and re-platforming
  • Database upgrades and zero-downtime data migration
  • Upgrading outdated frameworks, runtimes and dependencies

How we build

The engineering habits we bring to every project, whatever its size.

Every change is reviewed

No code reaches the main branch without a second pair of eyes. Reviews catch bugs early and spread knowledge across the team.

Tests in the pipeline

Unit, integration and end-to-end tests run automatically on every change, so regressions are caught before they reach users.

Security by design

Secure coding practices based on OWASP guidance, secrets management and dependency scanning, backed by our in-house cybersecurity team.

Observability built in

Structured logs, metrics and traces are part of every service we build, not something bolted on after the first incident.

Documentation and handover

Architecture notes, API docs and runbooks are written as we go, so your team can understand and own the system.

You own what we build

Source code, infrastructure and intellectual property belong to you, in your repositories and your cloud accounts.

Frequently asked questions

What technologies do you specialise in?

Our core strength is backend engineering in Go, alongside Java, Python and Node.js. On the front end we build with TypeScript and modern component frameworks, and on the infrastructure side we work across Google Cloud, AWS and Azure with Kubernetes and Terraform. We'll always recommend the stack that fits your product and team, not just the one we like best.

Can you work with our existing team and codebase?

Yes. Many engagements start with an existing system. We begin with a short assessment to understand the code, architecture and delivery process, then work alongside your developers using your tools and conventions.

How do you estimate cost and timelines?

After a discovery phase we break the work into milestones and estimate each one. For fixed-scope projects that becomes a fixed quote; for ongoing work we agree a team size and review priorities together every sprint.

Who owns the code and IP?

You do. Code lives in your repositories, infrastructure runs in your cloud accounts, and all intellectual property created for you is yours.

Do you provide support after launch?

Yes. We offer ongoing maintenance, monitoring and feature development after go-live, or a structured handover to your in-house team, whichever suits you.

Can we start small?

Absolutely. A discovery workshop, an architecture review or a small proof-of-concept is a low-risk way to see how we work before committing to a larger engagement.
